WHAT?

Once a week on my days off and at a given time of day, I will start a live video stream where you can watch me writing for an hour or until I complete my daily thousand-word target. This is intended as a show of solidarity and to provide motivation for those who might need it. Or maybe you just want to write as part of a group. Maybe this gives you the push you need to start a project, restart that novel, or finish that poem. Whatever it is, I hope you find this a comfortable place in which to join.

WHY?

A lot of us struggle to find that time to write. And I include myself in this. Whether it’s because of a job, family commitments, mental health issues … the list can go on and on as to why we can’t write today. There are days - weeks, months - when I just don’t feel like it. But I grit and bear it. I get up. I plod on. I write. Believe me, it hasn’t always been this way. 

 

Now, though, I want to share some of this determination with you. I have been fortunate to have some fantastic support throughout my years of writing, but I have also been placed in positions where I was able to see that not everyone is able to access this kind of support, in the short or long term. So I want to give back, as a thank you to all those who have helped me get to where I am today, and for those who are helping me get to where I’m going tomorrow. This website is my way of doing that. 

 

The online space is more or less free to operate - the only costs being the usual subscriptions and a little time to set up the live stream, but the pros far outweigh any cons here - it forces me to get on and write, as I hope it does you. But, if you enjoy the space and want to donate to help fund my writing journey, anything given is appreciated.

WHEN?

I’ll endeavour to post the start time of the following day’s stream the day before/in good time. It won’t always happen this way and it might not always be smooth, but it’ll happen. Just keep an eye out!

Oh, and I’m not promising to get up at 5am every morning 365 days a year to squeeze this in, but I’ll try. If I’m working and earning a living in other ways, I won’t be there. If I’m off at the weekend, then I will be there on one of those precious days. At different times of the day and night – definitely. But consistently, yes. That is what I’m aiming for. To turn up when I say I’m going to turn up and be there writing. You won’t always see my face, my desk, my work in progress, but there’ll be enough of me in shot to let you know I’m not kidding on.
